Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a common clinical digestive system disease and is widely recognized as a gastric precancerous lesion. As an important component of the theoretical system of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), constitution theory emphasizes the key role of individual constitutional differences in the occurrence, development, and outcome of disease. Recent studies have shown that significant differences exist in disease progression among CAG patients with different constitution types, and pathological constitution is considered one of the risk factors for disease progression in CAG patients. From the perspective of constitution theory, this article systematically explores the TCM etiology, pathogenesis characteristics, and treatment strategies of CAG in common constitution types such as qi-deficiency, yin-deficiency, yang-deficiency, qi-stagnation, and damp-heat constitutions, in order to provide new diagnostic and therapeutic ideas and research directions for the individualized prevention and treatment of CAG.
