Mixed urinary incontinence (MUI) refers to the simultaneous presence of symptoms of stress urinary incontinence and urge urinary incontinence. Its treatment is complex and represents a significant challenge in the field of urogynecology. This article reviews recent clinical and basic research advances in MUI from both traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine perspectives. Western medical treatments primarily involve behavioral therapy, pharmacological interventions, and surgical procedures. While these approaches are highly targeted, they often come with side effects or may not be suitable for all patients. In contrast, TCM emphasizes holistic syndrome differentiation and has demonstrated unique advantages in alleviating symptoms and improving quality of life, with fewer side effects. The combination of TCM and Western medicine, by leveraging their respective strengths, holds promise as an important strategy for enhancing the clinical efficacy of MUI treatment. Further research is needed in the future to identify the optimal integrated treatment approach.
