Abstract

Based on the classic traditional Chinese medicine theory that the lung and large intestine are interior-exteriorly related, this article systematically summarizes the research progress and clinical application experience of lung-dispersing therapy for functional constipation. It interprets the theoretical connotation of this doctrine and incorporates modern advances such as embryonic developmental homology, cellular signal transduction, shared mucosal immunity, gut microbiota interaction, and the gut-lung axis, so as to demonstrate the scientific basis and intrinsic rationality of lung-dispersing therapy from multiple perspectives. Guided by the strategy of simultaneous lung-intestine treatment, the clinical efficacy of this approach is further confirmed. This study is expected to overcome the limitations of conventional Western medical treatment for functional constipation and provide new theoretical and therapeutic references for its intervention with traditional Chinese medicine.
