Progress of Clinical Research on Acupuncture in the Treatment of Uterine Fibroids

Abstract

Uterine fibroids are a common benign tumour of the uterus, mainly due to the excessive proliferation of smooth muscle cells in the uterus. The appearance of fibroids greatly affects women’s survival and quality of life, and acupuncture has gained wide acceptance in the treatment of uterine fibroids due to its safety, non-toxicity and accurate efficacy. Now, by collating the clinical applications about acupuncture treatment of uterine fibroids, we have summarised the commonly used acupuncture treatments and analysed their acupuncture point-taking patterns in the hope of finding a more effective and standardised treatment plan for the future treatment of uterine fibroids with acupuncture.
