Traditional Chinese Anesthesia refers to the use of acupuncture, herbal medicine, tinctures, washes, ointments, etc. to render the body temporarily insensitive to pain for surgery and related treatments. Having undergone countless vicissitudes over the centuries, traditional Chinese anesthesia has gradually matured in the long river of human civilization. This article reviews the history of traditional Chinese anesthesia, its invention and development, and records the long and arduous process of exploration from the primitive practices of traditional Chinese anesthesia to its refined and precise techniques with its continuous progress.
