Elaeocarpus ganitrus (commonly known as Rudraksha), an evergreen tree belonging to the Elaeocarpaceae family, has a long history of use in traditional medicine, particularly for its effects on the nervous system. In recent years, this plant has been the focus of numerous scientific studies aimed at uncovering its diverse pharmacological properties, including antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, anticonvulsant, antiulcerogenic, and antioxidant activities. This review evaluates the medicinal potential of E. ganitrus with a particular emphasis on its antidiabetic properties in high - fat diet - induced diabetic models. The bioactive compounds found in E. ganitrus make it a promising therapeutic agent for managing metabolic disorders, particularly diabetes. This review aims to summarize existing research on the pharmacological properties, phytochemical composition, and therapeutic potential of E. ganitrus, as well as to suggest directions for future studies.
